Katy Perry shares guide to block $10 billion ICE funding bill; ‘Trudeau made her do it,’ says social media

Katy Perry shares step-by-step guide to block $10 billion ICE funding bill; ‘Trudeau made her do it,’ says social media

Pop star Katy Perry has urged her fans to step into political action, calling on them to help block a proposed $10 billion increase in funding for US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), saying it is time to “turn anger into action”.In a series of Instagram slides, Perry laid out a clear plan for her followers, explaining who to contact, what to say and when to act. The post asked fans to call their US senators before Friday, January 30, ahead of a Senate vote on a major spending bill that includes additional funding for ICE.

Her five-word call to action was presented step by step:

1) Who: You, the power is in your hands. 2) What: Call your senators. 3) When: Now. We have until Friday, January 30th to block $10 billion (on top of the $75b that’s already been funded) from going through to ICE. 4) Where: Call (202) 224-3121. 5) Why: Because it’s time to turn anger into action.” The final slide offered a script supporters could use when speaking to senators’ offices. Comments were disabled on the post. Perry captioned the message: “turn anger into ACTION.”The timing of Perry’s intervention comes as immigration enforcement faces national scrutiny in the US, especially by Democratic leaders. Tensions have been high in Minneapolis, Minnesota, following two fatal incidents involving federal agents: Minneapolis ICU Nurse Alex Pretti and Minneapolis mother Renee Nicole Good. Both were legal US citizens, and their killings were caught on camera.Perry has long been aligned with liberal causes. She has supported LGBTQ+ rights, civil liberties and Democratic candidates, publicly endorsing Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, Kamala Harris and Joe Biden during election campaigns. Her personal life became more political since her relationship with former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau last year. The two appeared together at the World Economic Forum in Davos in January 2026 and have made joint appearances abroad. Some social media users say Trudeau was the one responsible for getting too close to the Republican base in the US. He is also despised by US President Donald Trump in several aspects, including his previous leadership. The spending bill at the centre of Perry’s appeal would add $10 billion to ICE’s budget, on top of roughly $75 billion already allocated. Progressive lawmakers and immigration activists have opposed the increase. The stakes are high. If the Senate fails to pass the spending measures by the end of January 30, a partial federal government shutdown will begin on January 31.Last week, seven House Democrats voted in favour of advancing a $64.4 billion Department of Homeland Security (DHS) funding bill that includes the additional $10 billion for ICE.
