NEW DELHI: AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday criticised the Centre over fuel price, saying petrol prices should have fallen as global crude oil prices have declined.Addressing a presser, the former Delhi chief minister accused the government of allowing oil companies to make excessive profits. “Centre allowing oil companies to make ‘illegitimate profit’; petrol prices should be dropped from Rs 102 to Rs 82,” he said.Kejriwal compared crude oil prices in February with current international rates and claimed that despite the fall in crude prices, petrol continues to cost Rs 102 per litre, the same price fixed by the government in May this year.He also questioned why fuel prices remain high despite the government’s push for E20 ethanol-blended petrol. On Wednesday, Kejriwal wrote to 29 automobile manufacturers seeking a written clarification on the impact of E20 ethanol-blended fuel on vehicle mileage and engine safety. He asked the companies to respond within seven days. The AAP chief said separate letters were sent to Maruti Suzuki India, Toyota Kirloskar Motor and Hero MotoCorp, while the remaining 26 manufacturers received a different letter seeking their position on the use of E20 fuel and consumer concerns.
