India on Friday issued a NOTAM (Notice to Airmen) extending its airspace closure for Pakistan-registered aircraft, including those operated, owned, or leased by Pakistani airlines and operators, as well as military flights. The ban is set to remain in effect till 23 September 2025 (estimated).

The Pakistan Airports Authority had issued a fresh NOTAM confirming the extension of restrictions on Indian aircraft flying over Pakistan.

The authority stated, “All aircraft operated by Indian airlines will not be allowed to use Pakistani airspace. The ban also remains in place for military and civilian aircraft that are Indian-owned or leased.”

The initial ban was imposed on April 23, lasting one month, following heightened tensions after the Pahalgam terror attack in Kashmir, which killed 26 civilians and was one of the deadliest in recent years. India’s move barred Pakistani carriers and aircraft from flying over Indian airspace. In response, India issued a reciprocal ban on Pakistani aircraft on April 30.

Both countries first extended these airspace restrictions on May 23 and have since continued the bans amid ongoing tensions. The extension coincides with India’s Operation Sindoor on 7 May, which targeted terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir as a direct response to the Pahalgam attack.
