Politics: Thackeray Brothers Lead in Their Strongholds as BJP Alliance Maintains Edge in Early BMC Trends

Amid the ongoing counting of votes in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections, a major update has emerged from the traditional strongholds of the Thackeray brothers. Areas such as Lalbaug, Parel and Worli—long considered bastions of the Thackeray-led Shiv Sena—are witnessing a clear lead for the Thackeray camp, reaffirming their influence in central Mumbai. However, the contest remains intense across the city. Western and eastern suburbs are witnessing a neck-and-neck fight, with fluctuating trends keeping the political contest wide open. According to early data from the first hour of counting, which is being conducted in batches of 46 wards, the BJP-led alliance is maintaining a significant lead overall. In the first set of 46 wards currently under counting, the BJP alliance is leading in around 30 wards, while the Shiv Sena alliance has slipped to about 12. The Congress alliance is leading in four wards. These are still trends, not final results, but they indicate a strong early advantage for the BJP alliance outside the Thackeray strongholds. Officials have reiterated that BMC counting follows a strict 46-ward batch system, and early numbers from postal ballots should not be confused with ward-wise results. With counting expected to continue through the day, clearer results will emerge as more batches are completed, shaping the final outcome of Mumbai’s crucial civic election.
