Breaking News: Millions of Devotees Take Holy Dip at Prayagraj Sangam as Makar Sankranti Celebrations Peak Across India

Makar Sankranti is being celebrated with fervor across India, with Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh witnessing an overwhelming turnout of devotees at the sacred Triveni Sangam. Since the beginning of the Magh Mela, lakhs of pilgrims have arrived from all corners of the country to take a holy dip at the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the invisible Saraswati. On Makar Sankranti, the ritual bath is believed to cleanse sins and bring spiritual merit. This year, over 85 lakh devotees had already taken the dip by the afternoon, and more than 20 lakh are still arriving. Authorities have expanded the bathing ghats to 3.69 km with 24 new ghats and strengthened security with 10,000 personnel, 42 police checkpoints, and over 400 CCTV cameras for crowd management. Similar celebrations are being witnessed in Haridwar, Amritsar, Ganga Sagar, Karur, and Arunachal Pradesh. Meanwhile, in Gorakhpur, CM Yogi Adityanath offered khichdi at the Gorakhnath temple, extending greetings to the people. The festival marks a day of devotion, unity, and spiritual renewal across the country.
