In an exclusive conversation with ABP News Political Editor Megha Prasad, Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw shed light on why the government felt compelled to introduce the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill, 2025.
Over the last few years, online gaming platforms and apps have expanded rapidly across India, with transactions worth thousands of crores taking place every single day. Concerned about the unchecked growth and potential risks, the government moved to regulate the sector through the new legislation, which has now been cleared by both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha.
Explaining the rationale, Vaishnaw said that online gaming has emerged as a significant sector within digital technology and continues to expand at a fast pace. At the same time, he cautioned that the segment involving online money gaming poses serious harm.
