Former journalist and Malayalam actor Rini Ann George has accused a young leader from a prominent political party of sending her offensive messages on multiple occasions.

Speaking to reporters, Rini, without naming the politician, also claimed he had invited her to a hotel. Rini also said she had warned him of informing his party, however, he continued his behaviour.

Demanding the party to take action against the leader, the actor said, “The party should take action against him as there are complaints coming against this person. There are complaints from within the organisation.”

“It’s being said that the wives and daughters of the leaders of the party have had bad experiences with him,” she told reporters.

“I want to ask which woman these politicians will protect when they could not protect the women in their own families. It’s the women that’s electing people like him to power, seeing reels and all,” the actor alleged.

She said she decided to speak out after seeing similar allegations by other women on social media, many of whom remained silent.

“I decided to speak as I saw recently on social media that many women have faced similar issues. None of these women is speaking a word about it. So I thought of speaking for all,” she added.

Though Rini did not name the leader, the Bharatiya Janata Party on Wednesday staged a protest march to the office of Congress’s Palakkad MLA Rahul Mamkoottathil, demanding his resignation.

Soon after Rini’s allegations were made public, Honey Bhaskaran, a writer, accused Mamkoottathil of sending her messages through social media.

In a Facebook post, the writer mentioned that Rahul’s messages initially were travel-related. However, later, he sent a series of messages to her, she claimed.

The writer said she had stopped responding to him and later learnt through Youth Congress workers that he had badmouthed her.

Rahul Mankoottathil currently serves as the Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for the Palakkad constituency and holds the position of President of the State Youth Congress.

Following the resignation of Shafi Parambil, who was elected to the Parliament, Mankoottathil won and was elected during the subsequent by-election.
