Breaking News: Massive Train Collision Inside Hydropower Tunnel in Chamoli, Over 60 Workers Injured

A tragic incident has emerged from Chamoli district in Uttarakhand, where a major accident occurred inside the tunnel of the THDC Vishnugad-Pipalkoti Hydroelectric Project. During a routine shift change, two material-carrying trains operating inside the tunnel collided head-on, leading to chaos at the worksite. At the time of the collision, a large number of workers were present in and around the tunnel area, which significantly increased the impact of the accident. According to initial reports, nearly 60 to 100 labourers sustained injuries in the mishap, while several of them are said to be in critical condition. Soon after the incident, rescue teams and local administration rushed to the spot and began evacuation and relief operations. The injured workers were shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment, where medical teams are closely monitoring their condition. The accident has raised serious concerns regarding safety protocols and operational management within large-scale infrastructure and hydropower projects in the region.
