Dhanashree admits parents urged her to end marriage with Chahal

Dhanashree Verma admits parents urged her to end marriage with Yuzvendra Chahal, says they bore the brunt of trolling: ‘There were days when my mother would give up’

Dhanashree Verma and cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal’s divorce after five years of marriage turned into a painful chapter for both. The controversy only deepened when Chahal appeared in court wearing a T-shirt that read “Be Your Own Sugar Daddy.” Now, in a heartfelt conversation, Dhanashree has revealed how the separation deeply affected not just her but also her family.I had to stay strong for my parentsDhanashree admitted that the divorce was “confusing” for her. While she could handle trolling to an extent, it was her parents who were most affected. “I had to stay strong to make my parents feel better. We belong to this generation, so we know not to pay attention to negative comments, but how do you explain that to your parents? My parents’ friends would call them, ‘Yeh kya ho gaya?’ It was a delicate situation because I also needed strength and so did my parents,” she recalled in an interview with Humans of Bombay. Parents struggled with societal pressureShe described how overwhelming the situation became at home. There were days when her mother broke down and her parents avoided phones due to constant calls. “It was so overwhelming and not required because parents feel so much pressure from society. And then when they have to deal with something like this, how do they fix that?” she said, adding that she often had to strictly tell them not to answer calls.

Dhanashree Verma Reacts To Rumours Divorce Rumours With Yuzvendra Chahal, Labels It ‘Character Assassination’

Courage to walk awayAcknowledging Chahal’s more powerful public position, Dhanashree credited her parents for giving her strength. They reminded her every day that walking out of the marriage was the right choice. “To even take that decision requires a lot of courage. Knowing that you are with someone who is more powerful than you, to even come to that decision of leaving that partnership requires a lot of courage, and my parents reminded me of that every day. They kept telling me how proud they are that I made this decision. It’s not easy,” she shared.Healing through silence and workDespite the media circus and online trolling, Dhanashree decided to focus on her work rather than react. She admitted that she is still healing but consciously chose silence. “I haven’t healed completely but I am working towards it. Silence is not easy, it takes a lot of a person to just stay silent,” she said.
