A French streamer, famed for taking part in extreme online challenges, has died, prompting a judicial investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death. Raphael Graven, 46, better known by his online aliases Jean Pormanove or JP, was discovered dead at his home in Contes, near Nice, shortly after concluding a live broadcast.

It was reported that Raphael Graven had endured “10 days and nights of torture,” including severe physical abuse and sleep deprivation. His followers raised the alarm after noticing him lying motionless on a mattress during the stream. One viewer claimed to have seen a man hurl a water bottle at him as he remained unresponsive.

French daily Le Monde reported that Raphael Graven, a former soldier, had become increasingly entangled in content involving humiliation and violence. In recent months, he was allegedly subjected to routine beatings and abuse during livestreams, reportedly carried out by two other influencers.

Clara Chappaz, a government minister, condemned the case as an “absolute horror” and confirmed that a judicial probe has been opened. Sarah El Hairy, France’s high commissioner for children, also denounced the incident, saying, “This is horrifying. Platforms have an immense responsibility in regulating online content so that our children are not exposed to violent content. I call on parents to exercise the utmost vigilance.”

Authorities said that they are investigating not only the direct circumstances of Raphael Graven’s death but also the broader role of digital platforms in enabling dangerous content to flourish.
