A 30-year-old man suspected of spying for Pakistan was detained by Military Intelligence (MI) in Rajasthan’s Jaisalmer and later handed over to Kotwali police, officials said on Wednesday.

The accused has been identified as Jivan Khan, a resident of the Sankada area. Officials said Khan had previously worked at a restaurant inside the military area.

On Tuesday (August 19), he allegedly tried to re-enter the Army station but was stopped at the gate.

According to sources, MI personnel checked his mobile phone after noticing suspicious activity and subsequently detained him.

He was handed over to the police later that night. During preliminary questioning, Khan is said to have admitted to having relatives in Pakistan.

Khan will be presented before the Joint Interrogation Centre (JIC), where multiple agencies are expected to question him further, officials added.

This is the fourth suspected espionage case reported in Jaisalmer recently.

On August 13, a contractual manager at the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) guest house near Chandan Field Firing Range was also arrested for allegedly spying for Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).

According to the Rajasthan CID (Security), the accused, Mahendra Prasad from Almora in Uttarakhand, had been in touch with ISI operatives through social media.

He was allegedly passing on sensitive details about the movement of DRDO scientists and Army officers involved in weapons and missile testing at the firing range.

Further investigation into both cases is underway.
