The accused, who was later identified as Rajesh Bhai Khimji Bhai Sakriya, was standing in a queue to meet the Chief Minister and had nearly five people before him.

Sources said he breached the queue and approached Rekha Gupta with the documents he was carrying.

Sakriya first slapped the Chief Minister, it was known, after which she stumbled onto a nearby wall.

The accused then grabbed the Chief Minister by her hair, sources informed.

Soon after, the accused was taken over by the Chief Minister’s security staff and others present at the location.

Rekha Gupta was attacked during a ‘Jan Sunwai’ programme at her camp office in Civil Lines on Wednesday morning, her office said.

The accused was later arrested and was being interrogated.

“A person attacked Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta during ‘Jan Sunwai’ today. Delhi Police has detained the accused and is questioning him,” the Chief Minister’s Office said in a statement.

Talking to reporters after meeting the Chief Minister, Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva said that Chief Minister Gupta is “shaken”, but she is doing fine.
