Sunjay Kapur’s demise triggers inheritance dispute
Soon after Sunjay Kapur’s demise, reports emerged about a will that allegedly leaves his entire estate to his third wife, Priya Sachdev Kapoor, and her children. The will reportedly leaves nothing for Sunjay’s mother Rani Kapur, his sisters, or even his children with actress Karisma Kapoor.Karisma Kapoor’s children, Samaira and Kiaan Raj Kapur, then moved court, questioning the authenticity of the will and are now in a legal fight against Priya Kapur. At the centre of this dispute is Sunjay Kapur’s sister, Mandhira Kapur Smith, who has now spoken out against claims that she is greedy or eyeing her brother’s wealth. Mandhira has openly supported Karisma’s kids and has demanded that the rights of their mother, Rani Kapur, be restored
Mandhira Kapur challenges claims around will
Speaking on the ‘InControversial Podcast’, Mandhira expressed disbelief that her brother would ever cut his children out of his estate. She said, “They have been in his life longer than he even knew Priya’s name, and he is going to cut them out? His son was his best friend. His daughter was his first love. You don’t go beyond that. Your children are your heart and soul. Even your parents come second after your kids. There is no way in hell he chose his third wife over his two kids.”
Sister recalls Sunjay Kapur’s bond with children
Mandhira went on to describe Sunjay as a devoted father whose world revolved around his children. According to her, his relationship with them was central to his life and identity, “If you knew my brother and saw him with his children, he had eyes only for them. He didn’t look beyond them. What’s happening to those two kids is deeply unfair. And I don’t think something like this should be allowed to happen to an 80-year-old woman and two children. How does someone come in and claim everything?”
Sister voices doubts over brother’s passing
Mandhira also spoke openly about her doubts regarding the circumstances surrounding Sunjay’s passing. While she did not make direct allegations, she said she found the actions taken immediately after his passing shocking. “I don’t believe my brother died of natural causes because, for this to be the first step you take the very next morning after losing your husband, it’s shocking to me. My brother was a healthy guy, and I will get to the bottom of everything,” she said.
Mandhira alleges long-standing marital conflicts
Mandhira further claimed that problems between Sunjay and Priya were not recent. According to her, tensions began as early as mid to late 2022 and were known to several people around the household. She claimed, “Yes, there were many fights from mid to late 2022. I didn’t just hear it from my mother, I heard it from people who worked in the house and even outsiders who witnessed it. What’s interesting is that once I started speaking up, people began calling me to say, ‘We just want to tell you…’ The truth will come out.”
Family disputes claims of company restructuring
Mandhira also alleged that Priya’s removal from company positions in 2023 was deliberate and not routine, “She claims there was a restructuring, yes, there was a restructuring to get you out. So who are you kidding? She is so gutsy that she is lying to the court.”
Mandhira responds strongly to greed accusations
As the dispute gained attention, Mandhira faced trolling and accusations of greed online. She responded firmly, denying all such claims. She said, “I have not come forward to grab anything from my brother. I am fighting for what this family stands for. And whether people like it or not, this is part of my inheritance and my children’s inheritance. People say the sisters are greedy or the mother should move on, no. The mother gave birth to this legacy. The sisters are Class I heirs. My brother didn’t create this wealth; my father did. This is paid PR. Ordinary people understand what’s happening. She is spending our money to fight us, but it won’t last.”
