Bishnoi gang's threat a new normal in Ontario: Indian-origin brothers in Canada allege they received 'last warning to pay $2 million'

Ontario brothers Ranbir Singh Mand and his brother Dharmjit complained that they had been receiving threats allegedly from a member of India’s Lawrence Bishnoi gang. In an interview with Global News, Ranbir said it’s a new normal now in several parts of Ontario. The brother told Global News that the extortionist accused them of selling drugs to Punjabi youths in Canada, which they said was not true. They said the extortionist clamed his name to be Raja, which is likely a false name.

‘You have been chosen to donate $2 million’

The Ontario brothers said that when they first received the call from Raja, Raja told them that they had been chosen to donate $2 million. Dharmjit thought it was a prank call but the calls never stopped and the man claimed to be a Bisnhoi gang member.

“I don’t have any issue with Lawrence Bishnoi,” Dharmjit said. “I don’t have an issue with the Indian government. I don’t have an issue with anyone here.”Dharmjit said the intensity of the threats increased: a car drove past his farm in Caledon with the window rolled down and firing shots. In a social media post, Raja wrote that “what happened today was just a warning. If he still does not change we will kill him, so that our future Punjabi generation can be saved from drugs.” After this incident, they received a voice message on WhatsApp in Punjabi which said. “This time, the bullets were fired outside. I hope I don’t have to come inside your home and shoot you in the forehead the next time,” according to a translation of the recording, which the family shared with Global News.“Think about that,” the message said. “I’m after you now. I’ve stopped everything else I’m doing, and now I’m after you. Run wherever you want to run to.” “I’m going to kill you in the end anyway,” the latest threat said.
