PoK Protests: PoK Unrest Escalates as Protesters Allege Crackdown by Pakistani Security Forces

Tensions have escalated in Pakistan-administered Kashmir (PoK), where protests have reportedly continued for the past 52 days over local grievances. According to the claims in the source, Pakistani security forces have intensified operations against demonstrators in Rawalakot, including power cuts, internet shutdowns, and raids on homes involving alleged vandalism and looting. Protesters also allege that the use of tear gas and live firing by security personnel has resulted in the deaths of more than 90 people, including Osama Jameel, a PhD scholar at Quaid-i-Azam University, and Shabash, captain of a local football team. The claims further state that hundreds have been injured and thousands have gone missing, though these figures have not been independently verified. Despite the crackdown, the Joint Awami Action Committee’s Muzaffarabad Long March continues. Demonstrations against the reported actions have also taken place outside the Islamabad Press Club and in London, where protesters have called on the United Nations to intervene and address the situation. Authorities have not publicly confirmed the casualty figures cited by protesters.
