Naval Standoff: Iranian Navy Warns of Continued Strikes, Threatens to Close Strait of Hormuz

In a major escalation following the reported death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, the Iranian Navy has issued a strong warning, declaring that attacks on US bases across Arab countries will continue. Iranian military officials have also announced plans to shut down the strategically critical Strait of Hormuz, warning that no vessels should pass through the vital maritime corridor. The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most important oil transit chokepoints, with nearly 30% of global oil shipments passing through it. Any blockade could severely disrupt energy supplies from Gulf nations such as the UAE and Kuwait, potentially triggering a global energy crisis. Iran is believed to possess significant naval capabilities, including hundreds of warships and submarines, with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) playing a central role in maritime operations. US defense officials have previously warned that any attempt by Iran to block the strait would prompt a decisive military response. Analysts now fear a possible direct naval confrontation between Iranian and American forces in the Arabian Sea. With tensions mounting rapidly, the risk of a broader regional war appears higher than ever.
