The United States and Iran have formally reached a peace agreement after 111 days of conflict, with U.S. President Donald Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian signing the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). Trump signed the document while attending the G7 Summit in France, while Pezeshkian completed the process in Iran, bringing the agreement into immediate effect and officially ending hostilities between the two countries. Under the deal, both sides will continue negotiations over the next 60 days on key issues, including Iran’s nuclear program and uranium stockpile. The agreement also provides for the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, mutual respect for sovereignty, the removal of certain restrictions, and discussions on Iran’s frozen assets and oil exports. Reports also suggest that Iran has pledged not to pursue nuclear weapons. Digital copies of the agreement have reportedly been shared with mediating countries, replacing plans for a formal signing ceremony in Geneva. The development has been welcomed internationally as a major step toward regional stability.
