A major escalation has emerged in the Middle East conflict after the attack on a gas facility in Qatar. Following the strike on the Ras Laffan gas plant, Qatar has ordered Iranian diplomats to leave the country within 24 hours, significantly increasing tensions between Iran and Qatar. The move comes amid growing conflict after attacks on the South Pars Gas Field, which triggered massive fires and global concern. South Pars is a critical energy source—providing about 70% of Iran’s domestic gas needs, while Qatar relies on the same reserve (known as North Dome) to remain the world’s leading LNG exporter. The war, now in its third week, is rapidly turning into a full-scale energy conflict. Earlier, Israel and the United States targeted Iran’s oil and gas infrastructure, prompting Iran to retaliate by striking energy facilities in Qatar and Saudi Arabia. Iran has also issued warnings of further strikes on Gulf energy hubs and advised civilians to stay away from such locations. The situation now threatens not just the region but the global energy market, raising fears of supply disruptions and economic instability.
