Iran has issued a new map expanding its surveillance zone around the Strait of Hormuz, a move being described as a direct challenge to the United States. According to the report, Iran now claims monitoring authority from the Persian Gulf to the Gulf of Oman. Tehran says that ships passing through this enlarged surveillance area will require permission from the Persian Gulf Authority. The announcement is significant because the Gulf of Oman already hosts a strong American naval presence. The report suggests that Iran feels increasingly confident after what it considers a successful first phase of confrontation with the US. Iranian authorities appear convinced that Washington may avoid launching another military strike. By widening its monitoring zone, Iran is signaling stronger control over one of the world’s most strategically important maritime routes. Although Iran’s official territorial jurisdiction remains limited to the Strait of Hormuz, it now claims a much broader naval surveillance area. This development could further raise tensions in the region, especially given the presence of US forces and the global importance of oil shipments passing through these waters.
