Iran Targets Amazon Data Facility In Bahrain Amid Escalating Tensions

Iran reportedly carried out a strike on a cloud computing facility linked to Amazon in Bahrain, according to a Reuters report citing the Financial Times.

Earlier, Bahrain’s Interior Ministry confirmed that a fire had broken out at a commercial site following an attack, adding that civil defence teams were able to bring the blaze under control. However, officials did not disclose the name of the company involved, nor did they provide details on casualties or the scale of the damage.

Iran’s Threat To American Firms

The reported strike follows recent threats issued by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, which had warned of targeting American firms operating in the Middle East. Companies mentioned in those warnings included Microsoft, Apple, IBM, Tesla and Amazon, in response to joint US-Israel military actions against Iran.

Amazon Web Services (AWS) infrastructure in Bahrain plays a key role in the region’s digital backbone, supporting enterprises, financial institutions and government operations across West Asia. Any disruption to such systems, even if limited, could impact data access, connectivity and service delivery across multiple sectors.

So far, the ongoing conflict has largely been confined to military targets, supply routes and energy assets. The reported attack on a cloud services facility signals a potential shift towards digital infrastructure, raising concerns over broader economic and operational consequences beyond immediate physical damage.
