A 40-year-old man was sentenced to 20 years in jail by a special court in Odisha's Balasore district on Saturday for raping a five-year-old girl when she was going to a shop near her house to buy soap.

More than 10,300 people lost their lives due to drowning, snakebites and natural disasters in Odisha over the past three years, revenue and disaster management minister Suresh Pujari informed the assembly on Thursday.

Five people were arrested for allegedly gang-raping a 30-year-old woman in Odisha's Ganjam district, police said on Thursday.
