For those looking to experience Dutch culture and build a life there, the country now provides a clear pathway to permanent residency (PR) for non-EU/EEA nationals, including Indians, provided they meet certain eligibility requirements.

Permanent residency allows you to live and work in the Netherlands long-term. It can also pave the way to Dutch citizenship later, giving you access to social security and other benefits. However, it is important to meet all eligibility criteria before applying.

  • You need to be a non-EU/EEA citizen and have lived in the Netherlands continuously for at least 5 years under a valid residence permit meant for non-temporary purposes (like work or study).

  • Pay the Application FeeThe non-refundable fee is currently €243 (approximately ₹25,098).
  • Wait for ProcessingApplication processing can take around six months or longer, depending on individual cases.
  • Receive ApprovalIf your application is approved, you will receive an approval letter. You can then collect your residence permit from the IND office.
