Despite online trolling and body shaming, Swara Bhasker advocates gradual postpartum recovery.

Motherhood often transforms not just a woman’s life but also her body. For actress Swara Bhasker, who welcomed her daughter Raabiyaa in 2023 with husband Fahad Ahmed, the transition came with both joy and challenges. While the arrival of her baby was celebrated, Swara found herself at the receiving end of online trolling and body shaming for her post-pregnancy weight.

Now, nearly two years later, the 37-year-old is rewriting her health narrative on her own terms. Her trainer, Mandar Yadav, recently shared a video of her hitting the gym with determination, performing weighted hip thrusts, squats, and leg presses. Swara Bhasker re-shared the moment with the caption: “Stepped back into the gym after 2.5 years. Big moment.”

But Swara’s story isn’t just about lifting weights; it’s about lifting stigmas. Too often, new mothers face societal pressure to “bounce back” quickly, overlooking the emotional and physical toll of childbirth. By openly documenting her gradual return to fitness, Swara is normalising the idea that recovery is personal and timelines don’t need to be rushed.

The words accompanying the video: “Every rep, every step is proof that it’s never too late to choose yourself”, carry a larger message. Fitness, in this context, isn’t about achieving a certain body size, but reclaiming strength, confidence, and self-care.

Experts agree that postpartum fitness should be more about function than aesthetics. Building stamina, improving mobility, and nurturing mental health are just as important as muscle tone. Swara’s decision to highlight her journey publicly is empowering, especially in a culture where celebrity transformations are often showcased as overnight miracles.

What makes her comeback even more relatable is her honesty. There’s no pretence of perfection, just a commitment to consistency. In doing so, she’s carving a healthier narrative for mothers who often feel guilty for prioritising themselves.

For women navigating postpartum recovery, Swara’s return to the gym is a reminder: strength isn’t measured only in kilograms lifted or calories burned. Sometimes, it’s simply about showing up for yourself. Her message is clear. Your story doesn’t end with motherhood; it only evolves. And when you’re ready, your comeback is waiting.
