Wonderla Chennai to open on December 2, introducing India’s first B&M Inverted Coaster and Sky Rail

Wonderla Holidays, India’s largest amusement park chain, has announced the launch of Wonderla Chennai, its fifth and most ambitious project to date, marking a new milestone in the country’s entertainment landscape. Spread over 64.3 acres, including 37 acres of developed area along Chennai’s Old Mahabalipuram Road, the INR 611-crore park blends ancient Tamil architectural influences with state-of-the-art entertainment. The park will be inaugurated on December 1, 2025, by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin and open to the public from December 2.

The announcement was made at a press conference attended by Arun K. Chittilappilly (Executive Chairman & Managing Director), Dheeran Choudhary (COO), Ajikrishnan A G (VP-Engineering), and Vyshakh Ravindran (Park Head – Chennai).

Wonderla Chennai features 43 world-class rides across thrill, family, kids, and water categories, designed to accommodate up to 6,500 guests daily. Ticket prices start at INR 1,489, with a 10% discount for online bookings and a 20% concession for college students, alongside seasonal and group offers.

Arun K. Chittilappilly, Executive Chairman and Managing Director, Wonderla Holidays, said, “Wonderla Chennai is the culmination of a decade-long dream, made possible through the support of the Government of Tamil Nadu. We’ve created what we believe is India’s most advanced and immersive amusement park—one that truly belongs to the people of Tamil Nadu, reflecting their creativity, culture, and warmth.”

The park introduces several firsts to India, including Tanjora, India’s first Bolliger & Mabillard (B&M) Inverted Coaster—crafted in Switzerland and offering multiple inversions, zero-gravity rolls, and a floorless configuration for a true sensation of flight. Other major attractions include Spin Mill, India’s tallest spinning thrill ride at 50 metres, and Sky Rail, a 540-metre elevated monorail offering panoramic views aboard Viking-inspired golden gondolas.

Wonderla Chennai’s design reflects Tamil Nadu’s cultural and environmental heritage, transitioning visitors through zones that merge temple-inspired stonework with futuristic design. The park’s infrastructure incorporates sustainable, climate-responsive architecture, shaded areas, and extensive green cover with over 1,000 indigenous trees.

Beyond its rides, Wonderla Chennai features eight themed dining venues with 1,384 seats, serving regional favourites such as Dindigul biryani, Chettinad chicken, and Chennai-style seafood. Its “Make-Ready-Discard” philosophy ensures all food is freshly prepared and served the same day. The retail experience features local artisan collaborations, including Thanjavur and Marapachi dolls inspired by Tamil craft traditions.

Facilities include first-aid stations, baby care areas, locker rooms, a 1,500-seat conference hall, and an 8,500 sq ft open-air event space for corporate and community gatherings. The park is fully accessible, with barrier-free pathways and family-friendly infrastructure.

Wonderla Chennai is expected to generate over 1,000 direct and indirect jobs, with the project facilitated by Tamil Nadu’s Industrial Guidance & Export Promotion Bureau. Sustainability measures include a 3.75 crore-litre rainwater harvesting tank, a 1,000 kW solar power system (Phase 2), and full compliance with EN 13814, IS 3328, and IS 10500 safety standards.

Dheeran Choudhary, COO, Wonderla Holidays, said, “Beyond rides and attractions, we envision Wonderla Chennai as a destination for celebration—a place for families and communities to create shared moments of joy. Our focus remains on safety, value, and delivering world-class entertainment experiences for everyone.”

With Wonderla Chennai, the brand now marks its presence across all four southern states, reinforcing its leadership in India’s amusement and leisure industry and setting the stage for national expansion.
