Norwegian Cruise Line returns to Philadelphia after 15 years with Bermuda and Canada itineraries

Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) has announced its return to Philadelphia, marking the resumption of cruise operations from the city after a 15-year gap. The development positions Philadelphia as a re-emerging cruise gateway in the Mid-Atlantic region, supported by infrastructure upgrades and renewed industry interest.

The cruise line has deployed Norwegian Jewel for the current season, offering sailings to Bermuda, as well as Canada and New England. The itineraries are scheduled through August 27, 2026, with seven-day cruises featuring an overnight stay at the Royal Naval Dockyard in Bermuda, alongside additional port calls including Charleston, South Carolina, or Halifax, Nova Scotia. A longer nine-day itinerary departing on August 27, 2026 includes extended time in Bermuda and visits to Canadian ports such as Saint John in the Bay of Fundy and Halifax.

For the autumn season, Norwegian Jewel will operate 10- and 11-day Canada and New England sailings between September 5 and October 7, 2026. These voyages will include embarkation options from Philadelphia and Quebec City, enabling extended pre- and post-cruise travel opportunities. The itineraries are aligned with peak fall foliage travel demand across destinations in Maine, Massachusetts and Eastern Canada.

Beginning in late 2026, Norwegian Pearl will replace Norwegian Jewel and continue operations from Philadelphia through April 2028. In addition to Bermuda and Canada routes, the deployment will expand offerings to include Caribbean and Bahamas itineraries, strengthening year-round cruise availability from the port.

The return of cruise operations is being supported by the development of a new terminal in collaboration with PhilaPort and Tinicum Township, aimed at improving passenger handling and embarkation processes.

Commenting on the development, Marc Kazlauskas, president of Norwegian Cruise Line, said: “Norwegian Cruise Line’s return to Philadelphia marks an exciting and meaningful milestone for us and the region. For the first time in over 15 years, travelers in the Mid-Atlantic area will once again be able to sail from their own backyard with us to experience everything NCL is known for. With Norwegian Jewel leading our reintroduction and Norwegian Pearl following her later this year, we’re proud to bring our signature freedom and flexibility back to this incredible city and deliver the exceptional experiences our guests know and love.”

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro said: “As we celebrate America’s 250th anniversary, Pennsylvania is at the center of the action – and I’m excited to welcome Norwegian Cruise Line as the newest addition to our Commonwealth’s fast-growing tourism industry. Tourism is big business in Pennsylvania, supporting 500,000 jobs and contributing USD 84 billion to our economy across the Commonwealth. That’s why my Administration has made it a priority to invest in and support PhilaPort’s expansion, so we can create jobs, attract more visitors, and bring incredible offerings like cruises from Norwegian Cruise Line to the people of Pennsylvania.”

Jeff Theobald, Executive Director and CEO of PhilaPort, added: “The arrival of Norwegian Cruise Line and Norwegian Jewel signals the beginning of a new chapter for our port, our city, and the entire region. As we continue to grow beyond cargo operations, this new cruise service strengthens our position as a gateway to global travel and commerce while delivering meaningful economic impact for Pennsylvania.”

With the reintroduction of cruise services, Philadelphia is expected to see increased visitor inflows, supported by integrated cruise-tour offerings that combine maritime itineraries with local cultural and heritage experiences across the city.
