Everyone dreams of having long, thick, and healthy hair. Many women invest time and money in hair care, from using premium oils to salon treatments. With increasing pollution and unhealthy lifestyles, hair fall and thinning have become common concerns.

For women, having strong, beautiful hair remains a dream worth striving for. Women love styling their hair and often leave it open. Older generations usually advise keeping hair tied, leaving many confused about whether open or tied hair promotes better growth. Experts say hair growth depends on several factors, including diet, care, and routine – but how hair is styled can also affect its health.

Recommended Stories

Leaving hair open exposes it to dust, pollution, and sunlight, which can strip away natural moisture. Constant exposure increases dryness, dandruff, and breakage. Hair strands may weaken, fall out, and slow down in growth. Moreover, open hair is more prone to tangling, leading to knots and breakage while combing. This makes keeping hair open for long periods less ideal for growth.

Keeping hair tied offers protection. Styles such as buns, braids, or loose ponytails shield hair from dust and pollution while preventing excessive entanglement. Hair follicles remain safe, reducing damage and breakage. However, tying hair too tightly can be harmful. Continuous tight braids or ponytails place stress on the scalp, weakening follicles and increasing the risk of hair fall and thinning over time.

Ideal Approach

According to experts, the ideal approach for healthy hair is finding a balance. Avoid leaving hair open all the time or tying it too tightly. Loose braids or buns are recommended at home, as they protect hair without causing tension. While sleeping, a light braid prevents tangling and breakage, ensuring hair stays healthy overnight.

When stepping out in sunlight or polluted environments, covering hair with a scarf or dupatta can protect it further and help retain natural moisture. Experts stress that hair care is not just about style but a combination of protective habits and proper maintenance.

A balanced hair care routine also involves proper diet, regular oil massages, occasional hair masks, and gentle combing. These practices nourish follicles, prevent damage, and encourage stronger, longer hair.
