Priya Kapur is embroiled in a legal dispute over Sunjay Kapur’s ₹30,000 crore estate, with inheritance claims raising questions of family, custody, and legacy.

Karisma Kapoor’s children claim stepmother Priya Sachdev forged Sunjay Kapur’s will.
Delhi-born model-turned-investment professional Priya Kapur (née Sachdev) has found herself in the midst of a high-stakes legal battle over the inheritance of her late husband, industrialist Sunjay Kapur’s ₹30,000 crore estate. The dispute pits her against Sunjay’s children from his second marriage to actor Karisma Kapoor — Samaira and Kiaan — as questions around succession rights intensify.
Priya married Sunjay Kapur in 2017, several years after her first marriage to Indian-American hotelier-actor Vikram Chatwal ended. The two wed in a grand 10-day, three-city celebration in 2006 and became parents to daughter Safira in 2007. The couple divorced in 2011 after a turbulent relationship marked by incompatibility.

In an interview on the YouTube show Kin and Kindness, recorded just months before Sunjay’s death in June 2025, Priya reflected on her failed marriage with Chatwal. “My ex-husband ticked all the boxes — he went to Wharton, worked at Morgan Stanley. I studied mathematics at UCLA and did a double major with UCLA and LSE, so I thought it was a perfect match… but I guess I chose wrong,” she shared.
Priya revealed that as early as 15 to 20 weeks into her pregnancy with Safira, she sensed the marriage would not survive. “I wasn’t valued or appreciated for the sacrifices I made,” she said, recalling the eventual breakdown. After years of legal wrangling, Priya was granted custody of Safira, now 18.
Reports suggest that Sunjay Kapur had formally adopted Safira, potentially making her a legal heir to his fortune. If this adoption is legally validated, it raises complex inheritance questions — while Safira would be entitled to Sunjay’s estate, she may no longer have claims on the assets of her biological father, Vikram Chatwal.
Sunjay Kapur’s personal life has long been under public scrutiny. Before marrying Priya Sachdev, he was wed to Karisma Kapoor (2003–2016), with whom he has two children, and to fashion designer Nandita Mahtani (1996–2000), though that union produced no offspring.
Now, with Sunjay’s sudden passing, the fate of his sprawling empire rests on a contentious family battle, drawing attention to inheritance laws, step-family dynamics, and the complexities of high-profile legacies.
