The popular idiom “happy wife, happy life” is a deep-rooted truth for successful marriages and careers for men, suggests a study. According to the head researcher of The Gottman Institute in the United States, husbands who obey their wives are more likely to form successful marriages and become the most successful individuals in their respective work fields.

After spending years studying the traits of happy and unbroken marriages, Dr John Gottman revealed a truth that should come in really handy for newlywed men: keep your wife happy! In his latest research, Gottman suggested that men should listen to their wives and let them play an active role and a helpful guiding light in their professional careers.

Study Advises Men Must Listen To Their Wives For Successful Marriages

Gottman advises that men must be okay with their wives influencing their lives positively and shouldn’t resist the changes that bring to the traditional equation. “It’s most likely that men who resist their wives’ influence do so without realising it. It happens, and that’s okay, but it’s time to learn how to accept influence. It is both a mindset and a skill cultivated by paying attention to your partner every day and supporting them,” suggested the doctor and relationship expert in a blog.

The doctor also highlighted that an emotionally mature husband is more likely to accept his wife’s influence and also be “a more supportive and empathetic father because he is not afraid of expressing and identifying emotions.”

Study Grabs Internet’s Attention, Users React

A viral post highlighting Gottman’s study findings on relationships and the man’s role in shaping a successful marriage grabbed the internet’s attention and pleased a lot of female social media users, who amusingly brought it to the attention of their husbands immediately.

A woman tagged her husband in the comment section and said, “Happiness guaranteed—just keep doing what I say!”

“tagging u a thousandth time… Hoping to follow this,” another told her husband.

Someone told her better half, “Keep obeying me for a happier life.”

At a time when the conventional gender-specific roles are being revisited for better and marriage as a concept stands redefined, these study findings remind men to treat their wives equally and let them be their guiding light.
