If motion sickness and frequent vomiting tend to ruin your favourite road trip, you are at the right place. It is essential to make conscious efforts to stay healthy on the road and avoid physical constraints and fatigue that could spoil your mood. Here are eight simple but critical health tips that you should follow while travelling for that perfect getaway you had planned for so long.

Stay Hydrated

Recommended Stories

Due to the increased physical activity involved in travelling, individuals are advised to keep themselves hydrated. Keep drinking water at regular intervals to maintain sufficient fluid inside your body. Avoid alcohol for safe driving and minimise caffeine, which tends to dehydrate the body quickly.

Careful Food Consumption

Eating outside at small restaurants and Dhabas is flirting with risk, as the food could be contaminated with bacteria and viruses. Such unhygienic eateries are a host of foodborne diseases. Travellers must exercise caution about where they rest and take their food and opt for freshly cooked meals while taking only packaged drinking water.

Timely Rest

In a rush to reach our favourite destination, we tend to tire ourselves too quickly, which leaves us with little energy to explore and enjoy the place. Individuals need to realise that resting our bodies and sleeping for proper hours is just as critical as reaching the location on time, as it boosts our immune system and helps us stay upbeat with sufficient recovery.

Medications

Carry a medical kit with you that has all the general medications to counter pain, fever, motion sickness and other pills to stay healthy. Individuals with a medical history must keep their personal prescriptions with them.

Weather Dressing

Climate-based illness is a common occurrence among individuals who take time adapting to different weather and temperatures. Such travellers need to dress according to the likely weather at their destination. Make sure you wear light clothes in hot weather conditions and cover yourself up properly in rainy and cold areas.

No Close Contact With Sick People

As responsible individuals, we want to help the person needing immediate medical attention and care. But being in close contact with a sick person like that often leads to the spread of bacteria and viruses through coughing and sneezing. One should maintain sufficient distance from a person showing illness symptoms while travelling.

Respiratory Etiquette

Follow basic health etiquette, such as covering your mouth while coughing and sneezing, to prevent the spread of infectious droplets in the surroundings. Wear a mask for additional protection.

Stay Active

Avoid sitting for extensive hours while travelling, which hampers the body’s blood circulation and raises the chances of developing muscle stiffness. From time to time, stop your ride, take a small walk and stretch your legs to stimulate the blood flow.
