Navratri 2025 Day 4: Who is Goddess Kushmanda and Significance
Goddess Kushmanda is regarded as the creator of the Brahmand (cosmos) and is the only goddess with the power to dwell inside the Sun. Her name symbolises ‘cosmic egg’, the source of the creation of this universe.
According to Hindu mythology, when Goddess Parvati took the form of Siddhidatri, she chose to reside at the centre of the Sun. From there, she began to radiate energy, bringing light and energy to a dark universe. This divine form was later known as Goddess Kushmanda, whose radiant smile is said to have created the universe.
She is also called Ashtabhuja Devi, as she is depicted with eight hands. In her right hands, she carries a Kamandal, a bow, an arrow and a lotus flower. In her left hands, she holds an Amrit Kalash, Jap Mala, Gada and Chakra. Her glowing form symbolises strength, abundance and positivity for her devotees.
It is believed that she blesses her followers with health, wealth and happiness while removing negativity from their lives. Devotees also offer a white pumpkin (Kushmanda) as prasad on the fourth day of Navratri, seeking her blessings.
Worshipping Goddess Kushmanda is seen as a way to seek energy, prosperity and spiritual clarity. Devotees believe that her Jap Mala holds the power to grant Siddhis and Niddhis (supernatural abilities and prosperity).

As devotees pray to Goddess Kushmanda, they seek her grace for strength, positivity and prosperity in life.
