Human life is very precious. You are here to experience the infinity within this finite body, and to live timelessness within your limited lifespan. And yet, sometimes you feel stuck with your problems, you feel they are permanent and too big to overcome. Look back at your own life, you have been through so many challenges that you thought you will not survive, and yet here you are – total and complete. The realisation that everything is changing saves you from getting overpowered by problems.
Just observe – your body is constantly changing; so are your feelings, thoughts, opinions, likes and dislikes. So are your problems. Know that you are not going to be stuck with a problem for all of your life. It is important to remind yourself that this too shall pass. This intelligence in recognising the changing nature of the creation is a sign of maturity.

People sometimes contemplate ending their life in desperation because they are looking to escape misery. However, they do not realise it puts them in greater misery. It is like someone is shivering in the cold, and he goes out and removes his jacket. Will it get any less cold? No!
Life is impermanent. Don’t hang on to or cling to things that are not going to matter in the long run. The question that matters is – what do you want from this ephemeral world?
People often ask me ‘what am I here for’. Find out what you are not here for. You aren’t here to blame, cry, worry, be angry, or be miserable. Everything here has a purpose, and everything here is to make you stronger – be it friends or enemies.
Whenever you feel low or negative, go out and ask someone, “What can I do for you?” The service you do will bring a revolution inside you. Getting involved in some type of seva or service is a powerful way to increase one’s life force and turn the negative feelings on their head. Societies where service, sacrifice, and community participation are valued see fewer incidences of depression and suicide.
When life force or prana goes down, you get depressed, and when it goes further down, suicidal tendencies arise. You will not be violent to yourself or others when your prana is high.
What is prana? It is the life energy flowing through you; it is subtler than your breath. Your mind is like the glow of a candle, and your body is like the wick. When the fire is put off, the candle wick is still there but there is no light. Similarly, when one dies, the body is still there but the spirit which was the glow, which was keeping every cell alive, is gone; it is the life force or the prana. We rarely attend to this dimension of life.
Through physical exercise, pranayam, meditation, soaking the mind in wisdom and the association of happy people, the prana level goes up. When you have more prana or life force, you have better control over your feelings and thoughts.
Hold on to the faith that only good things will happen. If something unpleasant is happening, it is because nature wants to make you strong. It is like manure which smells foul but is needed to grow the fragrant flowers. Treat all the unpleasant experiences just the same way, like manure. All the pleasant and unpleasant situations are small when compared to your own potential, which is the Self.
So, look at your life from a bigger perspective.
Of course, when you have a nightmare, your heart palpitates for some time after you wake up. You feel very scared, but this feeling doesn’t last too long. As you grow in wisdom, you see the ever-changing nature of events. Then you become less affected by them.
Know that you are loved. Nature loves you 10 times more than a mother loves her newborn. Even if you have broken dreams, don’t lose hope! Have faith and know that every experience in life always brings something good with it! Know it for sure, that a higher power is taking care of you.
