If this problem is familiar, there is no need to worry anymore. The solution lies in the kitchen. By using aluminium foil in the washing machine, clothes can be washed properly without sticking to each other. Here’s how.

Clothes stick to each other and become wrinkled in the washing machine due to static charge. The friction generated between clothes during the machine’s operation creates this energy. Expensive clothes can be damaged by this static charge.

However, placing aluminium foil in the washing machine reduces friction between clothes, thereby decreasing the static charge effect. This prevents clothes from sticking together and helps maintain their softness. Additionally, the shine of the clothes is preserved. The light friction created by the aluminium foil helps to loosen dirt quickly.

The aluminium foil should be formed into a small ball, large enough to rotate easily in the washing machine but small enough not to get caught in the clothes. Once used, the foil should not be reused.

Experts recommend some tips when putting discarded clothes in the washing machine. Be careful with buttons and zippers to prevent them from touching other parts. Ensure that socks and handkerchiefs do not fall onto the roller while the machine is spinning. Heavy clothes like jeans should be washed separately.

It is important to understand each setting on the machine and not change them without knowing their purpose. For home use, set ‘permanent press’ for standard loads, ‘speed wash’ for lighter clothes, and the ‘heavy cycle’ option for fabrics like jeans.

To prevent colour fading in dark fabrics, use cold water for clothes that shrink when washed, and hot water for towels, heavy cotton, bedding, etc.
