Barcelona Bridal Fashion Week reaffirms its leadership in the bridal sector despite a challenging global backdrop

Barcelona dons white once again this spring. From April 22 to 26, the Montjuïc venue hosted a new edition of Barcelona Bridal Fashion Week, with a varied line-up that included its diverse calendar of fashion shows, staged in Hall 8, and its “trade show,” which concentrated the event’s professional dimension in Halls 1 and 2. This edition combined creativity, business, and internationalisation, and was marked chiefly by the tenth anniversary of Barcelona Bridal Night and by a complex global context that, even so, did not slow the sector’s momentum.

The catwalk schedule brought together 34 designers from Europe, the United States, and Asia, presenting more than a thousand dresses that previewed trends for the 2027 season. Over three days, the runway welcomed established names on the national scene such as Isabel Sanchís, Yolancris, Marco & María, and Candelas y Felipa, alongside international houses like The Atelier by Prof. Jimmy Choo and Justin Alexander, as well as emerging talents. A combination that once again underscored the event’s duality between designer-led labels and major international houses.

One of the highlights of the event was the celebration of the tenth anniversary of Barcelona Bridal Night, headlined by French haute couture designer Stéphane Rolland. Following in the footsteps of great houses such as Giambattista Valli and Vivienne Westwood, the French house staged an immersive performance, conceived by Pierre Martinez, where fashion, art, music, and poetry converged in a single show. The runway presentation, held again in Hall 8, brought together more than 80 haute couture creations and opened with a series of pieces designed by students from IED Barcelona, LCI Barcelona, and ESDI, developed under Rolland’s own supervision. The opening reinforced the event’s bond with emerging talent and paved the way for a staging of great emotional intensity.

“Stéphane Rolland spent a year coming to Barcelona to tutor the students and work with them directly,” revealed Albasarí Caro, the event’s director, to FashionNetwork.com. This commitment resulted in “a very emotional and purposeful experience,” characterised by an optimistic, hopeful outlook, with national icons such as Nieves Álvarez and Laura Sánchez also shining.

Beyond the runway, the event also expanded its commercial dimension with a trade show that brought together nearly 420 brands from 37 countries, with international participation accounting for 87% of exhibitors and 81% of visitors from outside Spain. The United States, Italy, Ukraine, Turkey, France, the United Kingdom, Poland, and Germany were among the main countries represented, confirming the event’s global reach, which welcomed around 23,500 visitors, in line with the figures from the previous edition. This space brought together labels that also showed on the catwalk with others that opted exclusively for the fair, such as Claro Couture, by designer Fernando Claro, and Sophie et Voilà, which this year chose to focus solely on the trade show after several editions on the runway.

The fair was once again laid out across complementary spaces, with brands grouped into well-defined categories, including The Edit Barcelona, a platform dedicated to local and contemporary design labels, and its Showroom Area, conceived as a showcase for haute couture and premium brands. In The Edit, Catalan designers such as Mariano Moreno, Olga Macià, and Andrea Lalanza shared the space with new emerging names, while the showroom brought together leading international houses including Georges Hobeika, Tony Ward, Elie Saab, and Stéphane Rolland. Through these two formats, the event broadens its reach, connecting varied expressions of local craftsmanship with international high fashion.

An edition marked by a complex geopolitical context

This year’s edition was, however, shaped by a climate of global uncertainty that directly affected international mobility. Some travel was influenced by the geopolitical situation, although the fair managed to maintain its numbers and commercial dynamism. “Right now everything is changing and, as the world and the sector evolve, we as a fair will also evolve,” argued Caro, stressing that “the great challenge for the sector is to adapt to the current context quickly.” She also noted that internationalisation was once again one of the main drivers of growth, with a special focus on markets such as Europe and the United States, as well as Brazil and Asian countries including Korea, Japan, and China.

Beyond the global geopolitical backdrop, the event unfolded at a delicate moment for the bridal fashion industry. The situation of major players such as Pronovias, immersed in a restructuring process and seeking investors, reflects the difficulties facing the sector. The company, which for years formed part of the BBFW runway calendar, left the programme in 2025 as part of a strategic redefinition focused on internationalisation. Against this backdrop, the event plans to continue championing more personalised propositions, small ateliers, and brands with a distinctive narrative, adapting to brides’ new consumer habits.

The next edition of the event dedicated to bridal fashion will take place from April 14 to 18, 2027 at its usual location. “Our focus is on offering tools, knowledge, and experiences that make it essential to come to Barcelona Bridal Fashion Week,” summarised Caro, adding that the event is in a “constant process of reinvention” and will continue to evolve without losing its essence as a global meeting point for the sector, delivering value to professional visitors.
