Weather Update: Dense Fog and Pollution Blanket Delhi-NCR, Zero Visibility Disrupts Normal Life

Delhi-NCR continues to reel under severe winter conditions as dense fog and heavy pollution have engulfed the region for yet another day. Large parts of the national capital, including India Gate, Akshardham, Lodhi Road, Mayur Vihar, Noida, Ghaziabad and other NCR areas, are witnessing near-zero visibility, severely affecting daily life. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), dense fog is expected to persist for at least the next two hours, while relief over the next two to three days appears unlikely. The weather department has issued a red alert for several inner areas of Delhi due to extremely low visibility, while a yellow alert remains in place across the city. Visibility in many locations has dropped to nearly 50 meters, impacting road traffic, train services, and flight operations. Several trains and flights are expected to face delays due to poor weather conditions. Adding to the concern, air quality in Delhi remains in the ‘poor’ to ‘very poor’ category, creating a dangerous combination of pollution, fog, and cold wave. IMD has also predicted the possibility of light rainfall around New Year due to a western disturbance, which may temporarily reduce fog but could intensify cold conditions. Maximum temperatures are likely to drop by nearly two degrees Celsius, further increasing the winter chill. Authorities have urged citizens to remain cautious while travelling.
