Rain Havoc: Flash Floods, Landslides and Urban Flooding Disrupt Normal Life

Heavy monsoon rains have caused widespread disruption across several states, with flash floods, cloudbursts, waterlogging, and rising river levels affecting both hilly and urban regions. In Himachal Pradesh’s Sirmaur district, flash floods in Nahan trapped several people who were later rescued safely. Uttarakhand’s Dehradun witnessed a sudden rise in a seasonal stream, where a car got stuck amid strong currents. Jammu and Kashmir faced severe damage after cloudbursts in Shopian, Bandipora, and Kupwara caused floods, washed away bridges, damaged homes, and affected livestock. In Maharashtra’s Bhiwandi, a mini-bus was swept away by the swollen Kamvari River. Urban areas also faced major challenges, with Gurugram, Shamli, Amethi, Hamirpur, and Surendranagar reporting severe waterlogging and traffic disruptions. Assam’s Sivasagar continues to recover from devastating floods, with thousands affected and relief operations underway. Rising water levels at Haryana’s Hathnikund Barrage have put nearby regions on alert. Authorities are monitoring weather conditions and advising people to stay away from rivers, flood-prone areas, and landslide zones as heavy rainfall continues.
