PM Modi Begins West Bengal–Assam Visit, to Launch Highway Projects Worth Thousands of Crores

Amid heightened political activity, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday began his visit to West Bengal and Assam, where he is set to unveil and lay foundation stones for major infrastructure projects worth several thousand crore rupees. Shortly, the Prime Minister will reach Nadia district in West Bengal, where he will address a large public rally amid tight security and extensive preparations. During his West Bengal visit, Prime Minister Modi will inaugurate a 66.7-kilometre-long four-lane highway project in Nadia district. In addition, he will lay the foundation stone for a 17.6-kilometre four-lane road project in North 24 Parganas. These projects aim to significantly improve the road connectivity between Kolkata and Siliguri, reducing travel time by nearly two hours and boosting trade, tourism, and regional development. After concluding his engagements in West Bengal, the Prime Minister will proceed to Assam, where he is scheduled to launch highway projects worth approximately ₹3,200 crore. The visit underlines the Centre’s continued focus on strengthening infrastructure in eastern and northeastern India. Prime Minister Modi has made multiple visits to West Bengal in recent months, inaugurating projects including the Kolkata Metro expansion, defence-related conferences, and several development initiatives in Ranaghat and Durgapur. BJP workers and supporters gathered in large numbers in Nadia’s Mathua Bahul Tahirpur area, showcasing enthusiasm ahead of the Prime Minister’s rally.
