Parliament Brief: Lok Sabha Pays Tribute, Speaker Urges Decorum as Monsoon Session Begins

The Lok Sabha commenced the Monsoon Session with members observing a two-minute silence to pay tribute to the departed, including expressing condolences over the loss of lives in Qatar. The solemn proceedings marked the beginning of the session before the House transitioned to its regular legislative business. Following the tribute, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla addressed members, emphasizing the importance of maintaining the dignity, traditions, and decorum of Parliament. He urged lawmakers to engage in meaningful discussions, constructive dialogue, and reasoned debates, stressing that Parliament is a forum for arguments backed by logic rather than slogan shouting. The Speaker also assured members that adequate opportunities would be provided to raise issues and participate in discussions. After the Speaker’s remarks, the House proceeded with Question Hour, beginning with the first listed question. The session is expected to witness extensive debates on several key national issues as both the government and the opposition prepare for a politically charged Parliament schedule. Meanwhile, in the Rajya Sabha, newly elected members continued taking the oath of office, marking another important procedural step on the opening day of the Monsoon Session. The simultaneous proceedings in both Houses reflected the formal commencement of parliamentary business following the ceremonial observances. With legislative work now underway, attention is expected to shift toward debates on major policy matters and issues of public concern. The opening day combined solemn tributes, procedural formalities, and a renewed appeal for constructive parliamentary conduct as lawmakers began what is anticipated to be an eventful session.
