Nepal is spiraling deeper into chaos as violent protests escalate across the country. In a tragic turn, former Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal’s wife, Rajyalakshmi, died after protesters set their house on fire in Kathmandu. Despite Khanal being safely evacuated by the army, his wife and son were still inside when the attack occurred. She later succumbed to burn injuries in a military hospital ICU. The unrest has also impacted air travel, with all flights from Tribhuvan International Airport suspended. Airlines like Air India, IndiGo, and SpiceJet have canceled services, leaving passengers stranded. Protesters have targeted political figures and their residences, setting homes ablaze in the upscale Bhainsepati area, where many government ministers live. Former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak’s residence was ransacked, and ex-Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ also saw his house torched. Energy Minister Deepak Khadka’s home was looted, and cash was seen flying in the air as protesters threw currency notes from the rooftop. Former Foreign Minister Arzu Deuba’s house was also burned in Dhangadhi. As the government crumbles, mobs have attacked homes of MPs and ex-ministers across cities, including those of Hridayesh Tripathi and Santu Jaiswal. With security forces overwhelmed, Nepal teeters on the edge of total collapse.
