Mumbai Monsoon: Mumbai Rains Cause Severe Waterlogging, Tree Falls and Traffic Chaos

Relentless monsoon showers have thrown normal life out of gear across Mumbai, with waterlogging, fallen trees, traffic disruptions, and transport delays reported from several parts of the city. In Dadar TT, a large tree was uprooted due to heavy rainfall and crashed onto a car, completely crushing the vehicle. Fortunately, no one was inside the car at the time, preventing a major tragedy. The incident blocked a key road, forcing emergency teams from the fire brigade and civic authorities to clear the debris. Severe waterlogging was reported in King Circle, Sion, Matunga, Andheri, Sakinaka, Kurla, Ghatkopar, and other low-lying areas. In King Circle, flooded roads left buses stranded and commuters struggling to reach their destinations. Authorities also warned residents about the risk posed by submerged manholes and exposed electrical wires. The Andheri Subway, a recurring flood hotspot, was inundated once again, forcing authorities to temporarily shut it down after vehicles were seen partially submerged in water. Several roads witnessed stalled traffic and damaged vehicles as floodwaters accumulated overnight. The weather department has issued a Red Alert for Mumbai, forecasting intense rainfall over the next 24 hours, while neighboring districts including Thane, Palghar, Navi Mumbai, Raigad, and Ratnagiri are also expected to receive heavy showers. The situation has reignited criticism of the civic administration, with questions being raised over drainage maintenance, desilting work, tree trimming, and the effectiveness of pre-monsoon preparedness measures despite repeated assurances by authorities.
