Monsoon Havoc: Jammu & Kashmir Reels Under Floods, Rivers Overflow

Torrential monsoon rains have triggered widespread devastation across Jammu and Kashmir, turning rivers into raging torrents and causing severe flooding, landslides, and infrastructure damage. Rajouri, Poonch, Jammu, Reasi, Akhnoor, and the Gurez Valley are among the worst-affected areas. In Rajouri, the Darhali River embankment collapsed, flooding residential colonies and sweeping away dozens of vehicles. Overflowing rivers, including the Darhali, Khandli, and Sukhtoh, inundated roads and homes, while flash floods caused extensive destruction in Kotli Kalaban. In Reasi, the Salal Dam gates were opened due to rising water levels, prompting flood alerts in downstream areas. The Chenab and Tawi rivers also witnessed dangerously high flows. Amid the crisis, police, the Army, and SDRF successfully rescued 11 workers stranded at a crusher unit in the Behrote area. The India Meteorological Department has warned that heavy rainfall is expected to continue until July 27, urging residents to remain vigilant and avoid unnecessary travel.
