The controversy over Maulana Jargis Ansari’s alleged remarks about Lord Krishna has intensified in Uttar Pradesh, with political parties engaging in a heated war of words. Uttar Pradesh Police is searching for Ansari after his statement, in which he reportedly referred to Lord Krishna as a Muslim, triggered widespread criticism. The BJP has launched a poster campaign in Lucknow targeting the Samajwadi Party and its chief Akhilesh Yadav, questioning his silence over the issue. The Samajwadi Party has hit back, accusing the BJP of using religious issues for political gains ahead of elections. SP leader ST Hasan supported the view expressed by some Muslim scholars regarding religious interpretations of historical figures. Meanwhile, spiritual leader Baba Bageshwar criticized Ansari’s statement and advised people not to make remarks about others’ faith. The controversy has now turned into a political battle, with parties using the issue to strengthen their positions amid the upcoming electoral environment.
