Highway Safety: Major Portion of Railway Overbridge on NH-45 Collapses, Disaster Narrowly Avoided

A large section of a railway overbridge constructed on National Highway 45 (NH-45) collapsed suddenly, triggering serious concerns about structural safety and construction quality. Fortunately, no vehicles were present at the spot when the portion gave way, averting a potential tragedy. The damaged stretch appeared as though the ground had sunk due to an earthquake, with massive cracks visible across the roadway. The bridge is now considered to be in a highly dangerous condition. Notably, the overbridge was built directly above a nearby railway crossing, making its structural integrity critical for both road and rail movement. This is not the first such incident. In December, another portion of the same bridge had partially collapsed. Since then, traffic had been restricted to a single lane while repair work was underway on the damaged section. The overbridge was constructed only about four years ago, ruling out age as a primary cause. However, the widening cracks and repeated structural failures strongly point toward the use of substandard construction materials and poor workmanship. Authorities are expected to conduct a detailed investigation.
