A devastating explosion in a Hyundai i20 near Delhi’s Red Fort has left the city shaken and investigators racing to reconstruct how the vehicle reached the busy Red Fort–Chandni Chowk junction and who was inside. CCTV footage shows the car parked near the monument hours before and later moving slowly through the crowded stretch before the blast that scattered vehicle fragments and human remains across the scene. Forensic teams recovered 42 important samples from the site, tyres, bonnet fragments, CNG cylinder parts, chassis pieces and two live cartridges and cleared rubble only after securing potential evidence. Investigators are probing the car’s ownership trail, including leads tying the vehicle to a Faridabad resale company, attempts to contact sellers whose numbers went unreachable, and the sequence of movements between 3:19 p.m. and about 6:48 p.m. Agencies are also exploring alleged links to a suspected “doctor module” operating across states. Initial findings indicate the explosion may have been accidental or panic-triggered rather than a pre-planned suicide attack, but forensic confirmation is pending. The NIA, Delhi Police and central agencies are combing CCTV, witness statements and mobile data while security remains tightened. High-level government and security meetings are expected to review the probe and next steps.
