Breaking Update: Up: 2.79 Crore Names Deleted; Akhilesh Yadav Hits Out at BJP

Uttar Pradesh has witnessed a significant development in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of its voter list. Reports reveal that 2.79 crore names have been removed, with Lucknow and Ghaziabad accounting for the highest share of deletion—nearly 30%. Only around two lakh names were added in the last fortnight. The Election Commission has confirmed that the final draft will be released on December 31, with no further extensions. Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav has criticized the deletions, claiming that 85–90% of removed voters were BJP supporters, potentially costing the party an average of 61 votes per assembly seat. Responding to the allegations, Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya stated that the days of voter manipulation and booth capture are over and praised the Election Commission’s efforts to clean the electoral rolls. Political debates are intensifying, with parties closely monitoring urban and rural voter trends. The final voter list is expected to play a crucial role in shaping strategies for both BJP and opposition parties ahead of future elections.
