A disturbing incident has surfaced from Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, where a Booth Level Officer (BLO) allegedly died by suicide, reportedly due to mounting pressure to complete ESIR-related targets. According to early inputs, a suicide note was recovered in which the officer mentioned his inability to meet the assigned targets and the stress he faced during the ongoing ESIR process. This comes at a time when serious questions are already being raised about the workload and pressure on BLOs across several districts. Many field officers have been publicly voicing concerns over unrealistic deadlines and continuous monitoring during the ESIR verification cycle. Exclusive visuals from the spot show officials gathering at the location as the investigation begins. District authorities have stated that no formal pressure was issued to any BLO for incomplete tasks, but the opposition has strongly criticised the Election Commission and the state administration. Leaders Rahul Gandhi and Akhilesh Yadav have both highlighted the incident, calling it a grave reflection of systemic flaws and demanding an immediate response from the Election Commission. They also stressed that the mental well-being and safety of field officers must be prioritised. The case has triggered a broader debate on accountability, work culture, and the urgent need for reform within the ESIR execution framework.
