In Firozabad, Uttar Pradesh, chaos erupted when a steamer carrying 25 villagers became trapped in the strong currents of the Yamuna River. The villagers were crossing the river to collect vegetables and fodder for their cattle when the steamer’s engine suddenly failed after a piece of wood got stuck inside. With no power to move, the boat began drifting dangerously towards babool trees on the riverbank. The passengers acted quickly by clutching onto the branches, preventing the steamer from being swept away. Soon after, local villagers and police rushed to the spot. Using tubes and ropes, they worked tirelessly for nearly five hours before successfully pulling the steamer and its passengers to safety. Fortunately, no lives were lost, though the incident left the passengers in shock. In a separate incident in Firozabad’s Kotwali area, traffic on the National Highway came to a halt when an intoxicated man lay sprawled on the road as if he were sleeping in his own bed. The bizarre scene caused panic among commuters until police arrived and removed the man from the highway, restoring traffic flow. Both events highlight the unpredictability of daily life and the importance of swift local response.
