Breaking News: UP Storm Death Toll Rises to 89 as Fierce Winds Wreak Massive Destruction

A powerful spell of thunderstorms, heavy rain, and lightning has caused widespread devastation across Uttar Pradesh, with the death toll rising to at least 89 people and dozens of others injured. The extreme weather event on Wednesday triggered chaos in multiple districts as strong winds uprooted trees, collapsed walls, damaged power infrastructure, and disrupted rail services across the state. The worst-hit region remains Prayagraj, where 17 deaths have been reported. In Fatehpur, 15 people lost their lives, while Bhadohi reported 13 fatalities. Mirzapur recorded 12 deaths as the storm system swept through central and eastern parts of the state. Other affected areas include Pratapgarh, Sitapur, Raebareli, Sonbhadra, and Bareilly, where significant damage and casualties have been reported. In a shocking incident from Bareilly, a viral video shows a young man being lifted into the air by a powerful gust while holding onto a tin shed. The structure was uprooted by extreme winds, throwing the man several feet before he crashed to the ground. He sustained serious injuries, including fractures, and has been admitted to a private hospital. Fortunately, his life was saved. In Unnao, a massive neem tree was uprooted and fell onto a parked WagonR car, causing severe damage. Similar incidents of fallen trees, damaged vehicles, and collapsed structures have been reported from multiple districts. Officials report widespread destruction, including damaged homes, livestock loss, and disrupted infrastructure. The state government has directed district authorities to conduct rapid assessments and provide compensation within 24 hours. Relief operations continue as emergency teams work to restore normalcy.
