Vijay Sethupathi breaks his no-cameo rule for Rajinikanth
Vijay Sethupathi has shared the reason behind making a rare cameo appearance in ‘Jailer 2’.The actor, who has stayed away from special appearances in recent years, said he decided to be part of the Rajinikanth-starrer because of his respect for the Superstar.
Vijay Sethupathi explains his decision
During a conversation with YouTube host Gobinath, Vijay Sethupathi spoke about his approach towards cameo roles. He revealed that he has stopped accepting such appearances in films. However, he made an exception for ‘Jailer 2’ because it stars Rajinikanth.Explaining his decision, Vijay Sethupathi said, “I’ve stopped taking up cameo roles altogether. Jailer 2 is the only exception because it’s Rajinikanth sir’s film. If my poster appears alongside Jailer 2, audiences will naturally focus on Rajini sir. But when smaller films use my cameo for promotions, it ends up affecting the films where I’m the lead actor.”
Actor gears up for another release
Apart from ‘Jailer 2’, Vijay Sethupathi has another film lined up. He will next be seen in ‘Train’, directed by Mysskin. Meanwhile, ‘Jailer 2’ has also been in the news because of reports surrounding its audio launch.According to Filmibeat, the makers were considering organising the event in Malaysia. The proposal reportedly came after Malaysia-based distributor Datuk Malik, who had previously organised the ‘Jana Nayagan’ audio launch, discussed the idea with Rajinikanth.The report further claimed that Rajinikanth was not keen on holding the event in Malaysia.According to the report, the actor said, “I don’t want the audio launch in Malaysia. Jana Nayagan’s audio launch was already held there. If I also conduct it there now, it will look like I’m competing with Vijay. I don’t want that.”Neither Rajinikanth nor the film’s makers have officially confirmed the claim.Meanwhile, reports suggest that the film features an ensemble cast that includes S.J. Suryah, Vijay Sethupathi, Hrithik Roshan and Vidya Balan in important roles.Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, ‘Jailer 2’ is one of the most-awaited Tamil films of the year and is scheduled to release in theatres on October 15, 2026.
