The Shankaracharya controversy has intensified further, exposing a visible divide among saints and spiritual leaders. Yoga guru Swami Ramdev has openly criticized the ongoing protests, indirectly targeting Shankaracharya Swami Avimukteshwaranand by urging spiritual leaders to focus on constructive action rather than verbal attacks. Ramdev emphasized discipline, restraint, and effort, stating that abuse and allegations weaken the cause of Sanatan Dharma. Swami Avimukteshwaranand responded sharply, accusing Ramdev of undermining core Sanatan values, particularly on cow reverence. He claimed that internal conflicts only benefit anti-Sanatan and anti-national forces, while asserting that criticism should not distract from larger ideological threats. Amid rising tensions, security has been increased at Avimukteshwaranand’s Prayagraj camp. His followers have installed around ten internet-connected CCTV cameras to monitor all movements, citing safety concerns. The Shankaracharya’s dharna has now entered its seventh day. Meanwhile, the political dimension has deepened. Opposition leaders, including Samajwadi Party’s Shivpal Yadav, accused the BJP of interfering in religious traditions and using Sanatan Dharma for political narratives, further escalating the debate.
