Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reportedly reacted strongly to the failure of the Women’s Reservation Bill in the Lok Sabha, according to sources. In a Cabinet meeting, he is said to have criticized the Opposition for not supporting the bill, calling it a “serious mistake” and stating that the Opposition will “face consequences” for it. The Prime Minister had earlier appealed to all parties to support the bill, emphasizing that it would ensure 33% reservation for women in Parliament and state assemblies. He reportedly expressed disappointment that the bill, already passed in 2023 but linked to delimitation for implementation, could not clear the required two-thirds majority in the Lok Sabha. Following its failure, the BJP leadership has taken a strong stance, accusing the Opposition of being against women’s empowerment. The party is now preparing a nationwide political campaign, including protests, press conferences, and public outreach, to highlight the issue.
