The Prime Minister had earlier appealed to all parties to support the bill, emphasizing that it would ensure 33% reservation for women in Parliament and state assemblies. He reportedly expressed disappointment that the bill, already passed in 2023 but linked to delimitation for implementation, could not clear the required two-thirds majority in the Lok Sabha. Following its failure, the BJP leadership has taken a strong stance, accusing the Opposition of being against women’s empowerment.
